We offer a varied catalogue of practical sessions, competition evenings, workshops, demonstrations and talks.
The THURSDAY MORNING SESSION runs from 9:30am-12:30pm and is an open, informal practice group with the the focus agreed by consensus of members.
The THURSDAY AFTERNOON SESSION follows from 1:00pm-4:00pm and members interested in Experiment, Revision, Discussion and Development are invited to come along with their painting materials.
Regular workshops are also organised through both sessions.
Our MEETINGS are held on the 1st & 3rd Tuesday of most months from 7pm-9pm when we come together for a programme of talks, demonstrations, competitions and critique. We enjoy presentations by experienced and interesting local artists and schedule a variety of eclectic competition themes.
We hold two EXHIBITIONS annually and as often as possible arrange TRIPS to art based events.
We are very much a community group and so our SOCIALS are an important aspect.

The THURSDAY MORNING SESSIONS are held most weeks from 9:30am-12:30pm with tea/coffee/biscuits available and just a small charge of £2.
This is a very lively and popular group and if you are interested in joining we ask that you contact the Group Manager at firstname.lastname@example.org to find out if space is available and Session Coordinator, Carol Jackson, can add your name to the waiting list if needed.
The sessions are informal and provide a forum for members to share expertise, enthusiasms and interests, learn new techniques from visiting demonstrators and participate in workshops. The location of the venue, adjacent to the Estuary, offers a wonderful opportunity for some plein air working and in the summer months, weather permitting, different members volunteer to arrange outdoor sketching outings at this and other locations - sometimes their own gardens.
The THURSDAY AFTERNOON 'BREAK OUT' sessions are held most weeks from 1:00pm-4:00pm again with tea/coffee/biscuits available and a small charge of £2.
The TUESDAY EVENING meetings are held on the first and third week of most months from 7:00pm to 9:00pm.
This is an ideal opportunity to socialise and catch up with members, enjoy competitions, critiques, talks and demonstrations given by guest speakers and practitioners.
COMPETITION EVENINGS are scheduled for the first Tuesday of the month. Members are invited to bring along one or two artworks to a prescribed theme and/or in a required media. A small cash prize is presented to the artist whose piece receives the most votes from those at the meeting. This is followed by a group discussion and informal critique of entries.
On the third Tuesday of the month there is either a TALK or DEMONSTRATION given by an artist or guest speaker invited to share their specialist expertise, skills and knowledge. This can be someone living locally in the south west or a Group member. Recent demonstrations have included using Charcoal with Richard Rochester, Watercolour with Louise Banks, Textiles, Printing and Paper-Making with Helen Plant, Outline Drawing and Oils with Donna Lawley Hoption and the technique of Pyrography and Mixed Media with Cherry Ferris.
Please visit our EVENTS page for details of the full evening programme for 2020.
All subscribed members are eligible to enter the two EXHIBITIONS we hold each year.
In May we participate in the Exmouth Festival holding a show at a local venue and in the Autumn have our major exhibition on the second floor of the Ocean complex for what was this year our 73rd Annual Exhibition. Ocean is located on the seafront and we have access to coffee bars and restaurants and visitors can enjoy refreshments either inside or out on the extensive balcony to take in those glorious views of the Exe Estuary.
Our exhibitions offer an excellent reflection of the wealth and variety of talent within the Group and provide an opportunity to purchase an original piece of artwork. With the added advantages of meeting and chatting to members stewarding the events and perhaps being encouraged to join the Group with our special offer of a discounted subscription.
The Exmouth Festival event runs during May Bank Holiday week and the Annual Exhibition in October.
Go to 2018 Exhibition Winners to see some of our members recent successes.
74th Annual Exhibition Venue Address
Ocean, Queen's Drive, Exmouth EX8 2AY
Throughout the year TRIPS to art based events are arranged with destinations frequently proposed by members.
In the autumn we go to the RWA Open Exhibition in Bristol and are always inspired by the work of new, emerging and established artists. The event is the largest open exhibition in the south west and on display a wide variety of media and styles by both first time exhibitors and some of UK's leading artists.
Previous excursions have been to the National Museum in Cardiff, Penlee House in Penzance and to see the Bruegel Exhibition at the Holburne Museum in Bath.

We are very much a community group and so our social calendar is an important aspect.
Each year our Patrons, Nigel and Heleen Lindsay-Fynn invite members to a SUMMER RECEPTION in the grounds of their beautiful home Lee Ford in Budleigh Salterton. This is a convivial, relaxed occasion when we enjoy refreshments and a catch up (invariably in the sunshine) and stroll around the extensive gardens. There is a traditional competition when members can if they choose bring along a painting to a theme set by our Patrons.
We celebrate the festive season with a CHRISTMAS PARTY at the Holy Trinity Church Hall on Rolle Street when members enjoy a finger buffet, quizzes, the Roger Matthews Cup competition, raffle and of course some very festive company.
In the spirit of bringing the visual arts to the community we are very much involved with several COMMUNITY GROUPS.
Exmouth Community College 'A' level students participate in our Annual Exhibition at Ocean and members are involved with the Rotary Group Kite Festival, Exmouth in Bloom and several care homes in the area. The 'Back to Art' group which we offer at the Infusion Cafe is targeted at those wishing to get creative but for various reasons do not have ready access or opportunity to join a more formal art group.
